How we started

David Field and Jim Kelly were tired of seeing naked commercial rooftops around their hometown of San Diego. In a city with so much sunshine, panel-less roofs felt like endless square feet of missed opportunity.

So in 2019, they founded Luminia – a company that pools David’s renewables expertise and Jim’s real estate background to accelerate solar systems and energy storage in the built environment.

It’s the perfect fit for San Diego, a city that’s long been at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. There’s a lot of pride in the renewables industry here, and we love being part of it.

What local impact means to us

For us, fostering community and longevity is about much more than just running a successful local enterprise. It’s about tending to our collective backyard.

It’s about working in a way that benefits the wider economy, creating lasting connections so we can all feel the impact of business done well.

We want to secure a thriving future for everyone who’s building a life in the communities where we work.
